Born in 1975 in Gelnice, Milo Janáč studied culture studies at Faculty of Arts of Prešov University. He worked in a number of Slovak media outlets and made a living as a bartender. He currently works with the culture department of his hometown’s municipal council. In 2018, he published Milo nemilo, his first novel. He said the following about how it came to be: “I didn’t plan it to happen. My friend and I had a pub in Gelnice and I started posting stories about the things that happened there each day on Facebook. I was surprised to find out that people liked and shared them a lot. I was then contacted by guys from Dailymale, a Slovak web portal that the Slovak fascists call a ‘nihilist portal with unknown goals’. So I kept writing these continuing stories. In the end, I had so much material that I published it as a book.”
