Ján Sedal: Only a bed...

Born in 1948 in Bratislava, Ján Sedal is a theatre and film actor and director. He did not finish the secondary school of mechanical engineering and made a living as a manual labourer (working as asphalt layer, concrete placer, theatre electrician, ceramist and in other jobs). Between 1974 and 1978, he studied puppet theatre at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. From 1982 to 2012, he was a member of HaDivadlo in Brno. In 2018, Arnošt Goldflam edited and published his poetry collection titled SMS básně (Text Message Poems). He wrote the following about the author: “I once came to visit to see what was in his little room. And I saw there was nothing, only a bed placed askew in the middle of the room, instead of being put neatly alongside the wall as people usually prefer it. [...] This made me understand his soul and his nature and I’ve liked him ever since...”
