Born in 1967, writer and filmmaker. He studied philosophy at universities in Poznan and Wroclaw and Icelandic philology in Reykjavik. Graduate of Krzysztof Kieślowski Faculty of Radio and TV at the Silesian University in Katowice. Author of novels, novellas, short stories, children’s books and short films. His books have been translated into twelve languages. Nominee of the most prestigious literary awards in Poland and the EU Prize for Literature. Two-time scholar of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and Departments of Culture of France and Greece. Regular column writer for the “Odra” monthly. Between 1997–2007, he lived in Iceland, and also retains Icelandic citizenship. Since 2007, he has been living in Vienna and in the village of Krasne in the West Pomeranian voivodship (Poland). Recently, he published a collection of short stories, Dżender domowy i inne historie (2017). This fall, his next book Złodzieje bzu (Thieves of Elder) is due for publication.
